Frequently Asked Questions
Virtual Job Fairs are just like an in-person job fair, but held online! Each participating company has its own virtual “booth” that you can join from the exhibit hall. Once you're at an employer's booth, you can learn more about their organization, use links to easily access their company website and job board, and even engage in a live chat!
Once you've registered for an event, return to this site on the date and time of the event. Once you have logged in, you will be taken directly to the Exhibit Hall. Feel free to explore the site, you can always return to the Exhibit Hall by clicking "Access the Virtual Job Fair" link on the main menu. You can always access the Exhibit Hall by clicking the "Access the Virtual Job Fair" link in the main menu.
From the Exhibit Hall, click on an employer. This will take you to the employer's booth page. At the bottom of the page you will find tabs with links to the interactions the employer has available. To enter the chat queue, click on the type of available chat you'd like to participate in (video or text) and click the button to join the waiting room. This will enter you into the queue which connects employers with attendees in the order in which the person entered the queue. Once you're in the waiting room, you will see your place in line. If you leave this tab or page, you will be removed from the queue. If you notice that your spot in line doesn't change, please refresh your screen. When the employer is ready to speak with you, you will hear a doorbell chime and the button will change. If you enter a webinar, you will find a chat room available under the video window. You can communicate with anyone in the room once you've clicked the Webinar tab.
Here are some tips to prepare for a virtual job fair: 1 Make sure that you've completed your profile; employers will have access to this information. 2. Research the employers. We provide some information about the employers in their "booth" page, but if you have the chance, check out their company website and search online for recent news articles and other relevant information. (Hint: you will see a list of the participating organizations at the bottom of the event page.) 3. Prepare some talking points. Just like an in person job fair, you want to be prepared to introduce yourself and be prepared with some intelligent questions for the employer representative. You want to make sure you ask questions; you can jot them down on a piece of paper and keep it off-camera if it helps. 4. If you're planning to video chat, make sure you dress professionally. Also make sure that your environment is clean and organized as your camera will allow employers to see a little bit of the room you're in. Also, you'll want to be in a quiet place that is free of distractions. 5. Be ready to take notes; have a pen and paper with you so you can jot down notes and new questions that you may think of while you're talking with the employer. 6. Keep the momentum going! Make sure you apply to the jobs you find at the virtual job fair!
